Ballet can either be a dram that tells a story through mime, dance and music or patter or abstract movements, without a story, performed to music. In Classical Ballet such as Swan Lake, many dancers, musicians, fancy costumes and stage prop are required. There are also many full - length new ballets modelled on classical ballet style. These include The Prince of the Pagodas with music by Britten, and Salome with music by Peter Maxwell Davies. Dancing classical ballet requires high degree of training from an early age. Modern ballets are often short and use simple constumes and stage settings. One example is the American ballet Revelations. Modern Dancing still requires very high standards of training and technique. Dance sequences can often be seen in musicals. In the movie West Side Story a modern dance sequence is set in the streets of New York and is Choreographed and danced using the same techniques as for a theatre.
